Londres

I am currently in Cannes, but I wanted to share my adventures in London! It. Was. Awesome. I found a way to beat jeg lag: drink, then go to sleep with the rest of the city. A group of about 15 of us found a cool pub a few blocks away from our hotel. There was a downstairs lounge with a "secret garden" area where we hung out until they kicked us out. Then four of us went to get food because we were rather hungry, so I had a wonderful midnight sandwich at a Moraccan place.

Saturday we had a bus tour of London. It was three hours long, but the tour guide was very informative so the time flew by. Since I had seen many of the sights senior year, it was fun to be able to know I've already done certain things and learn new things about them.

Umm....... prettiness by the palace.

Big Ben!

Wanda and Karen: Does this not look familiar? Like... a certain structure we could see every time we looked out our windows?? :-)

Brace yourselves, people. The Disney references of Study Abroad 2008 are about to begin. Actually, I'll make this into a game: WHAT DISNEY MOVIE AM I?
- sitting on the stairs of St. Paul's Cathedral
- takes place in London
- HINT: feed the birds...
Leave a comment with an answer!

Do you know the muffin man?
WHO LIVES ON DRURY LANE WHICH ACTUALLY EXISTS??? Oh my goodness.

Despite the bloody painted hints telling you which way to look, I almost managed to be struck by a vehicle. Luckily I have reflexes like a cat. And they were driving slow.

The Tube! After the tour we had the rest of the day to ourselves. Five of us went to the British Museum (which I am sad to say, did not have the Reading Room open. It was upsetting, actually. I was so excited to see all the books!) Despite my dissapointing encounter at the museum... we made up for it by buying all-day Underground tickets and running around. First we went to Abbey Road.

We signed the wall outside the recording studio with a highlighter. I wrote "Let it be", as you can see.

There was a tonnn of traffic, but we still ran around the street. We took a group picture like the Beatles walking across, but someone else has that so I'll post it when they put it online. Until then, you get this wonderful shot of me being a doof.

Disney Reference #2: I HAVE A BIG HEAD... AND LITTLE ARMS

(From the National Museum of History... there was a really fun dinosaur section. Yay for fossils!)

Hahahahaha it's called a dik-dik.

Oooooooooohh sweet niblets... a lime green Lamborghini. We were all pressed up against the glass admiring it.

And to close................. a little French child at the museum observing the dik-dik. "Maman, maman, regardez!"

Which made me so eager to get to France. And now I am. I have class in the morning and have to take a placement exam, so I am off for now.

Bisous!!

Update

August is almost over! Honestly, where did the summer go? I am still ready to go back to school. I have been. However, I am enjoying the time that I have at home. Tomorrow is my last day of work at the library. I do love that job. I also love coming home to the dumb dog on the right who just lights up my world.

I don't leave for France until September 11th (WHO BOOKED MY FLIGHT? Putain de merde!) which means I will be home while everyone is in school. I will be cramming as much French as I can into my head (I just bought Intermediate French for Dummies, haha) as well as going to the beach!! As a result of being around books from 9 to 5, I haven't really seen much sunlight. I have gone to the beach once this summer (hence the photo) and it makes me feel so much better, so to the beach I go!

I am extreeemely excited to go back to Paris. Who wouldn't be? Of course I am nervous though. I have been going into my mom's school to help set up her classroom and sometimes I just want to go back to Salve and continue my education classes. I know it sounds silly, but I honestly love learning about how to work with the kiddies.

I have a feeling that after my fabulous time abroad (which you will be able to follow on this blog!) I will be coming home to a wonderfulllllll spring semester. Zeb and I will be leaving in Rhode Island. I will be taking alll education classes... some of them being how to teach certain subjects. I plan on returning to the animal shelter to learn how to train dogs. Devan will be in New Haven, so I will be able to visit her easily. Then... there is a possibility of philosophy classes abroad at the end of the semester. Yeah, again.

Things are just good. Other than the waves of nervousness about living abroad for several months, I'm feeling really great. I have incredible friends in my life, unique opportunities in front of me, and a snoring dog cuddling with me.

So I'll close off with the quote on the right: Enjoy life.... Think of all the people who passed up dessert on the Titanic.

Don't say you didn't laugh.

Well...

Despite my wonderful summer schedule of
waking up,
drinking tea,
working,
napping,
eating dinner then
going back to bed...

I AM READY TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL!!!

If I were going back to Salve, I would be packed and ready... but the fact that I will be studying in Paris is making me want this summer over even more. Because honestly, I'm tired of sleeping. The problem is, I just have trouble finding a reason to stay awake. If I sleep through the day, I don't have to deal with any of the shit being dealt out. This has worked, but I am doneeee. I want Paris. Maintenant! Now! (Please!)

Fourth of July

I spent the Fourth with the Fellowship of the E. We just spent our time quincing around Elliothurst with Erik who decided to come home from the Marines for the weekend. What's weird is that was our last time together until 2009: next time Erik comes home, I will be in France, Devan will be in New Haven... what will we all be like next time Erik comes home? I think we'll still be laughing at dumb KaJanetBurger jokes.

I'm really grateful for my friends. With no other group of friends can I sleep in a bed with 4 people (and no fan?!) making "pook" jokes until 6 in the morning. We speak a language of our own, and anyone who hears us probably thinks we are insane. For good reason, too.

It's all good. I don't really care what other people think, so much as these people approve of me. Their opinion is what matters since they know me best. God bless them for that.

So basically I am appreciative of the time that we were able to spend together. I am glad that we can all keep in touch thanks to technology. I'm glad Adam and Erik have dumbed Devan and I down to the point where I think we can translate what we're saying now.

So come home safe, Erik. Or else you won't get to see these two Marking faces (Adam will always keep his Asian face special for you) . We will be waiting for you with a bag of Milanos (20!!!) and a bottle of Code Red (CUBED!). We love you and miss you!

I believe in pink, I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles. - Audrey Hepburn
